NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS: 6 TIPS TO BLUNT UNHEALTHY FOOD CRAVINGS

  1. Drink Water- When cravings strike, drink water and wait. Within minutes, you'll realize your body was thirsty, not hungry. Water can also help you lose weight by curbing your appetite.
  2. Increase Protein Intake- Protein helps you feel full longer, curbs appetite, and curbs cravings. A high-protein breakfast reduces cravings all day. It may reduce late-night snacking.
  3. Redirect from the Cravings- As cravings start, distract yourself. Walk, do a home project, shower. Turn away from the cravings. Changing your focus or surroundings can stop cravings.
  4. Meal Prepping or Planning- Plan or prepare your meals in advance, you won't make bad decisions because you're hungry after work. Knowing what you'll eat can curb cravings.
  5. Sleep- Leptin and ghrelin affect appetite and cravings. Sleep deprivation causes hormones to fluctuate, increasing appetite. It reduces fullness after eating. Lack of sleep can increase appetite and sugar and carbohydrate cravings. Sleep well to avoid cravings.
  6. Eat Balanced Meals- Overeating or skipping meals can cause strong cravings. Well-balanced meals are important. Your body will get the nutrients it needs, reducing cravings. If you must snack, choose raw nuts, vegetables or fruit. Feed your body.
